Tip: NHL season opener in the Czech Republic as the Buffalo Sabres face off against the New Jersey Devils!
Current bets
The two teams have been gearing up for the season. The Devils had a disappointing season last year, failing to make the playoffs despite high expectations. The Buffalo Sabres may not have been as active in the transfer market as the New Jersey Devils, but they have exciting young talent expected to take another step forward this season. And it's with one of these young players that I find my betting tip for this game!
Jack Quinn - A Player for the Future
One of Buffalo Sabres' major prospects is Jack Quinn. The 23-year-old Canadian has already had two seasons of NHL experience. In 2022-2023, he made his mark with 14 goals and 23 assists in 75 games despite limited ice time. There were high hopes for him to step up last season, but unfortunately, a lower-body injury disrupted his progress just as he was finding his stride. In only 27 games, he showcased his skills with 9 goals and 10 assists, totaling 19 points.
Heading into this season, he's back in the Sabres lineup, slated for the second line alongside the playmaking Dylan Cozens and young talent Zach Benson. With a natural ability to find the net, expectations are high for him, with talks of 30 or even 40 goals if he can stay healthy throughout the season. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but it's clear that Buffalo has confidence in him, and he’s expected to get much more power-play time on the top unit. I also expect him to see more ice time in five-on-five play.
NJ Devils Will Be Without Hughes & Pesce
The Devils have made significant offseason moves, and you can read more about my thoughts on the team's chances here. One of the players they brought in to solidify their shaky defense is Brett Pesce from the Carolina Hurricanes. Unfortunately, he won’t be available for tomorrow’s opener. Neither will Luke Hughes, brother of Jack Hughes, and an important part of the Devils' future. This leaves a weakened defense against Buffalo’s skilled offense on Friday. Perhaps their saving grace will be the addition of Jacob Markström as their new goaltender. Nevertheless, that doesn’t deter me from liking the bet I’m about to share.
Conclusion and Betting Tip
There's no doubt that Quinn is a player Buffalo Sabres need to get going if they hope to make the playoffs this season. With more ice time and power-play trust, I believe we’ll see the young Canadian elevate Buffalo’s offensive game even further if he stays injury-free. He’s expected to play tomorrow on the second line with Dylan Cozens and Zach Benson—an undoubtedly offensive line. With his role in the top power-play unit, it’s hard not to be tempted by a point bet!
