Frank Nazar Inks Long-Term Deal with Chicago

Frank Nazar
The Chicago Blackhawks have secured forward Frank Nazar with a seven-year contract extension, carrying a $6.59 million annual cap hit. The deal, starting in the 2026-27 season after his entry-level contract ends, reflects the team’s belief that Nazar will form a dynamic duo with Connor Bedard at the center position for years to come.

A late-season surge and international success showcased the young forward’s potential, earning him a long-term commitment from Chicago.

Breakout Performance Sparks Confidence

A late-season surge and international success showcased Frank Nazar’s potential, earning him a long-term commitment from Chicago. Last season, the 21-year-old forward dazzled with his speed and skill but initially struggled to score consistently. In April, he found his groove, tallying five goals and four assists in eight games. At the World Championships, Nazar led Team USA with six goals and six assists in 10 games, helping secure their first title since 1933. Kyle Davidson, Chicago’s general manager, views Nazar’s ability to drive play with elite speed and playmaking as a sign of his status as one of the league’s top young talents, making him a vital part of the team’s future.

Strategic Signing for Long-Term

Selected 13th overall in the 2022 draft, Frank Nazar impressed after a point-per-game college season at Michigan, debuting with Chicago in 2023-24 and scoring his first NHL goal. Starting last season in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs, he earned a call-up in December and posted 12 goals and 14 assists in 53 games. Nazar has expressed a deep connection to Chicago, describing it as a great city with a strong organization and a desire to remain with the team long-term. By signing him now, the Blackhawks aim to lock in a reasonable rate that could become a bargain as the salary cap rises, mirroring strategic deals like Nathan MacKinnon’s early extension with Colorado, though Nazar has yet to reach that elite level.
