Tip: Wrong favorite in UBS Arena!

Carolina Hurricanes - NY Islanders
The fourth game in the series between New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes will be played this Sunday afternoon, and it is the visiting Carolina Hurricanes that have a 2-1 lead in the series. However, it was the Islanders that won the last game and it is the team from long island that are favorites to win today. Is the favoritism correct or incorrect?

New York Islanders-Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina overall better than the NY Islanders

There is no doubt that Hurricanes are the better team of these two, as they collected twenty more points in the regular season and as they are better in both the offensive and defensive end. Much of the Islanders successes rely on their goalkeeper, Ilya Sorokin, and my colleague Andreas Nord mentioned, before game three that “Hurricanes are a bit stronger in all respects except for the goaltender Sorokin, and he cannot bail out the Islanders in every game”. If we look what these two teams have achieved this season, the Hurricanes have been better both offensively and defensively with a big amount of goal scoring chances created and with a low number of goal and goal scoring chances conceded. Compared to the Islanders, the Hurricanes is the best in all parts, and based on the three games that has been played in this series – the Hurricanes has been the overall best and been the team that have created most goal scoring chances.

Hurricanes with a stronger team

Above, I mentioned that the Carolina Hurricanes are better than the NY Islanders when it comes to both the offensively and defensively on the ice. If we look to the paper, that is, which players the teams put on the ice – the Hurricanes are, in my opinion, the stronger side and despite having players such as Max Pacioretty, Andrei Svechnikov and Teuvo Teravainen injured, Rod Brind’Amour can put a strong side on the ice with players such as Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas, Jaccob Slavin and Brent Burns. Like I mentioned above, and as Andreas has mentioned before the series “the Islanders largely stand or fall with Sorokin's performances”.

Conclusion and prediction

The fourth game between Islanders and Hurricanes will be played this afternoon, and I think that the visiting Hurricanes have some good opportunities to go up to a 3-1 lead in the series and therefore be able to hit the match ball on home ice. My belief in the Hurricanes is based on the conditions that tells that they are the better team between these two both offensively and defensively, meanwhile the Islanders largely relies on their goaltender Ilya Sorokin. I think that the bookmakers put too much emphasize on the Islanders win in game three, and that Hurricanes should be favorites in UBS Arena this afternoon.

My betting tip for this game is therefore:
