Tip: Will we get to see Leo Carlsson in the NHL?

Leo Carlsson
This weekend, Leo Carlsson is heading to Anaheim to try to make it onto the club's NHL team. Coach Johan Hedberg doesn't expect him to return to Örebro.

Leo Carlsson was picked second overall by the Anaheim Ducks in this summer's NHL draft, and shortly thereafter, he signed his entry-level contract with the team. The prodigious talent is traveling to California to try his luck with the Ducks' NHL squad, but his immediate future remains uncertain.

At the start of September, Leo, Örebro's star center, is making his way to the USA to partake in Anaheim's camps. Despite his commitment to Anaheim, he hasn't been seen in any pre-season matches for Örebro, raising questions about his return. Örebro's new head coach, Johan Hedberg, mirrors these concerns and doesn't anticipate seeing the 18-year-old in the SHL this winter. While Hedberg sees him having a good chance in the NHL, Örebro's sports director, Niklas Eriksson, points out the fierce competition among the centers in their team.

Finnish center Robert Leino, primarily a center, has been reshuffled to a wing position, hinting at the team's preparations for any scenario – with or without Carlsson. Amid the speculations, Eriksson remains hopeful yet pragmatic about Leo's return, emphasizing his unique value to the team. The looming decisions in Anaheim will significantly impact Örebro's line-up, as Carlsson, still early in his career, stands on the brink of significant decisions that could shape his future in hockey.

Carlsson's Unique NHL Contract: Play Up to Nine Games with Ducks or Commit Until 2027

Carlsson's contract allows him to play up to nine NHL games with the Ducks before fully committing. If he plays no more than this, his contract will extend until 2027, granting him ample time to showcase his talent on the big stage. As of now, the young center's path remains a riveting narrative in the world of hockey, with many awaiting his next move.

The Anaheim Ducks' training camp begins on September 21st, where Leo's performance might provide some answers. The following week sees the Ducks in a rookie tournament against other major NHL teams, marking another pivotal moment in Leo's journey.
