Tip: Seattle Kraken hosts Colorado Avalanche, can the away team bounce back?

Wennberg
The last game turned into a major disappointment for Colorado Avalanche, who recently suffered a heavy defeat against St. Louis Blues with a score of 8-2(!). Tonight, MacKinnon & Co. have traveled to Seattle to once again face off against the 'bogey' Seattle Kraken, who knocked them out of the playoffs last season. Can they reverse the trend and get back on the winning track?

It was not an enjoyable match for Colorado last round as they were defeated by St. Louis Blues with a score of 8-2. The home team, Seattle Kraken, also faced defeat, losing to Edmonton Oilers 4-1. In the round before, these two teams clashed for the second time this season, and it was Seattle who came out on top with a late decider by Oliver Bjorkstrand with only 32 seconds left in the match. Colorado is likely eager to reverse the trend against Seattle Kraken, and it remains to be seen if they can achieve this.

Questionable Performances

Neither Seattle Kraken nor Colorado Avalanche can be too satisfied with their recent results. Both are still in a decent position in the league, but there have been several questionable performances from both teams, and the recent rounds have been filled with a series of losses. Colorado, again one of the season's favorites to win the Stanley Cup, obviously has different expectations compared to Seattle Kraken, who surprised many last season by reaching the playoffs and then knocking out Colorado.

It's always interesting to delve into underlying statistics, especially as the season gets into full swing. Despite some missed results, Colorado has good figures. In 5-on-5 play, only Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings have a better xGF%, indicating that Avalanche is still doing a lot right, especially with their incredible offense winning games for them. Mikko Rantanen has had a strong start to the season and leads the internal points table, closely followed by Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon.

Some Disturbing Injuries

Both teams have some injury problems. Seattle Kraken is still missing Brandon Tanev, Andrei Burakovsky, and Jordan Eberle. These are significant players for Seattle Kraken who together scored 49 goals for Kraken in the regular season last year. Seattle's strength, however, lies in their forward depth, which makes them less vulnerable to these types of absences. However, the team does look thinner on paper without these players, and their quality is missed, which I feel has been noticeable.

In Colorado, it was recently confirmed that Pavel Francouz will miss the entire season. Fortunately, Avalanche has a capable first-choice goalkeeper in Alexandar Georgiev, so it should not be a problem in the short term. The most significant loss for Colorado's squad ahead of the match against Seattle is the unfortunate Artturi Lehkonen. The Finn, who had just returned from injury, crashed headfirst into the boards and was left lying on the ice during the last meeting between Kraken and Avalanche. He is expected to be out for several weeks.

Betting Tips and Conclusion

Colorado has not quite had the season they wanted, but despite some setbacks, they play strong attacking hockey and should be regarded as a top team in the league. For all Avalanche fans out there, I wouldn't worry too much. They continue to create plenty of quality chances and are destined to finish high in the table; the elite players in the team are simply too good to think otherwise. Seattle Kraken is not a bad team, and I was one of the first to praise the team already during their first season in the league 2021/22. They build good depth in the lines, but injuries disturb them, and before the season, I expected a setback from last year. What we have seen so far reinforces that view. With the current conditions, I believe that Colorado takes revenge and wins at Keyarena!
