Tip: Few goals for an injury-plagued Nashville against a defensively strong Dallas

Roope Hintz
The regular season of the NHL is coming to an end, and some teams have nothing to play for and some teams are having big matches coming up. In this text I focus on the important game between Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators, that are battling in Texas.

The Nashville Predators visiting the American Airlines Center and the Dallas Stars on Monday at 8:30 PM ET.

Dallas Stars-Nashville Predators

Dallas Stars

Dallas Stars are still in the hunt for the divisional win and the Western Conference win, and are chasing Vegas Golden Knights, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild and the reigning Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche, in a close conference where it only differs five points between the leading Vegas and the sixth-placed Dallas. The Stanley Cup finalists from the 2020/2021 season is heading towards the playoffs with a solid defensive and strong offensive. If we look at their defense, they have six strong defensemen and three solid defensive pairings with the tree Finns Miro Heiskanen, Esa Lindell and Jani Hakanpää who are accompanied with Colin Miller, Ryan Suter and Joel Hanley. Behind their defensemen, the Stars have one of the best goaltenders in Jake Oettinger who has a .917 save percentage after 58 played games. Dallas is one of the strongest teams in the league when it comes to the defensive, as they are one of the teams that concede the fewest goals and are among the teams that concede the fewest number of shots on goal. In the 76 games that has been played this fall and winter, the Stars have conceded on average 2.75 goals per game which is topped by only eight teams.

Nashville Predators

Just like for Dallas, this is an important game for Nashville as they are battling for a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference and the team from Tennessee are mainly battling with Seattle Kraken, Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets in the hunt for one of the two Wild Card spots. John Hynes’ team is, as the title reads, an injury-plagued team and it is especially in the offensive part that the Predators having concerns. On the team’s injury list, we find players such as Matt Duchene, Ryan Johansen and Filip Forsberg, and in addition are both the offensive strong defenseman Roman Josi and the Finnish forward Juuso Parssinen doubtful for the game in Texas. If we are looking to what the Predators have done offensively this season, they are one of the weakest teams in the league as they are one of the teams that scores the fewest goals and creating the fewest amount of scoring chances. There are only five teams that has scored fewer goals than Nashville this season, and there are only eight teams that has created fewer scoring chances than Nashville. Due to the big injury concerns the team is forced to deal with, they have had big problems with goal scoring in the last month. Since March 1, the Predators have scored three goals or more in just five of the twenty games that they have played, and just two games of the last eleven. This two games were played against Buffalo Sabres and St Louis Blues, who are both among the teams that conceding the biggest amount of goals in the league.

Conclusion and prediction

It is an important game for both Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators as they are battling in Texas on Monday evening. I think that the visitors are going to have problems with the goal scoring as they are a team that has several offensive key players on the injury list and as they are one of the teams in the league that scores the fewest goals and creating the fewest amount of scoring chances. On the other side of the ice we find a defensively strong Dallas, who are among the strongest teams in the league when it comes to the defensive game. That the guests score a maximum of two goals is likely based on above-mentioned conditions.
