Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks are placed in the bottom of Pacific Division and the Western Conference, and are among the teams that are just waiting for the season to end. The team from California are in a terrible shape, and have lost in eight consecutive games. For Anaheim’s part, it is both the offense and the defense which has not been of a high enough class to be able to challenge for higher table positions, but it is especially the defense that has been the teams worst part this season, when youngsters such as Trevor Zegras and Mason McTavish have had a positive season. If we are looking to the team’s worst part, the defense, the Ducks are the worst in the league based on chances conceded and goals conceded. The Ducks are the team that has conceded the biggest amount of goals this fall and winter, with 4,08 goals conceded per game. Like I said earlier, Anaheim are the team in the NHL that conceding the most amount of goal scoring chances and with Anthony Stolarz on the injury list and with John Gibson far away from the capacity he possessed five years ago, the Ducks have difficulties to deal with on the goalkeeping side.
Edmonton Oilers
Further up in the Pacific Division and the Western Conference, the Edmonton Oilers are battling for the conference and divisional win with Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings. The Oilers are coming to Anaheim and Honda Center with really good shape, as they have won five consecutive games and won ten of the last eleven. Like my colleague Andreas Nord brought up yesterday before their game against Los Angeles Kings, the Oilers is having the most dynamic offense in the league and it is, of course, players such as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisatl that pulls the heaviest load in the offensive game but beside the two superstars, Edmonton disposes of players such as Zach Hyman, Evander Kane and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who are about to reach a hundred points scored. The team from Alberta has this season been the team that has scored the most goals, with 3.97 goals scored per game, and there are only five teams that are creating a bigger amount of chances per game.
Conclusion and prediction
Despite being back to back, I think Edmonton is having good opportunities to win this game in Honda Center and very good opportunities to score loads of goals. The Oilers have the strongest offense in the league, with Connor McDavid, Leon Draisatl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the lead, and are visiting the Anaheim Ducks that are the worst team in the league when it comes to the defensively. Edmonton Oilers have a lot more to play for compared to Anaheim Ducks, as they are battling for the conference win and the divisional win meanwhile Anaheim is placed in the bottom of the conference and the division with no chances to reach the playoffs.
When this teams met a couple of days ago, the Oilers won with 6-0 and could have scored several more. Based on the conditions, I think it is likely that the Edmonton Oilers will score at least four goals during regular game time against the Anaheim Ducks.
